My daughter's sketch |
We made this for my daughter’s school project. Idea inspired by food network: https://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/volcano-cake-recipe-1939063
Here’s what we did!
Volcano Cake
Ingredients:
·
3 boxes of devil’s food cake mix
·
9 eggs (3 eggs per cake mix), oil and water as
indicated on the cake mix box
·
4 16 oz containers of chocolate frosting
·
1 16 oz container of white vanilla frosting
·
1 tube of 4.25 oz red frosting
·
1 tube of 4.25 orange frosting
·
Blue food coloring
·
Cherry lifesavers
·
Two 9 inch cake tins, two 6 inch cake tins, and 1
jelly roll pan
Directions:
1)
Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and sprayed all
cake pans with nonstick spray
2)
Made cake batter according to box
3)
Sprayed all cake pans, and filled with cake
batter.
4)
Baked the cake in the jelly roll for 20 min, and
the cake in the cake tins for 30 min until done.
5)
Let cake cool.
6)
Placed the two 9 inch cakes on top of the jelly
roll, and put chocolate frosting in between layers.
7)
Placed the two 6 inch cakes on top of the two 9
inch cakes with chocolate frosting in between layers
8)
Shaved the 9 and 6 inch cakes so that it looks
like a volcano, and covered with chocolate frosting. Placed in fridge and
decorated the next day.
9)
Next day, covered the volcano with chocolate
frosting, and the red and orange frosting.
10) Made
blue frosting by adding the blue food coloring into the white frosting. Spread
at the base of the volcano.
11) Made
the flames by melting the lifesavers in the oven. Placed the lifesavers onto
parchment paper for 5-7 min at 350 degrees. Stuck the flames on top of the
cake.
