Chinese turnip cake





This is my mom’s recipe for Chinese turnip (daikon) cake! We steamed these. The next day, we pan fried them and they were really good! 


Daikon Cake

Ingredients:

·        1.5 Daikons. Cut into half really thin strips, and the other half in thicker strips

·        Sugar 1 tablespoon 

·        White pepper 2 teaspoon

·        Chicken powder 1 tablespoon 

·        Cooking wine 1 tablespoon 

·        Dried small shrimps, 2 tablespoon optional

·        Chinese sausage 2, cut to small dices 

·        Mushroom 6 pieces, soaked overnight & cut to small dices 

·        Small amount cilantro & green onion

·        Shallot 3, diced into small pieces

·        Rice flour 180g (half catty)

·        澄麵 or corn starch 50g(half cup)

·        Sesame oil 1 teaspoon 



Directions

1. Stir fry shallot in pan, stir fry dried shrimps then  Chinese sausage pieces, then add in mushrooms, put in bowl to use later.

2. Cook the daikon in medium heat, add sugar & white pepper, mix well & cook in medium small heat for 10 min. Then add in bowl of Chinese sausage & mushrooms (keep some to put on top later), add chicken powder & cooking wine, mix well.

3. Slowly pour in rice flour & mix with cooked ingredients, then add in corn starch & mix well, then add cilantro & green onion. Add 1 teaspoon sesame oil.

4. Oil the cooking pan , pour in flour mixture, put the remaining sausage & mushrooms on top, press the top ingredients, cover the pan with foil.

5. Steam the daikon cake for an hour or until cooked. Add water to pan occasionally.
