Guava Cream Cheese Pastries

This is an easy pastry to make and flexible.

Here is what I did with 1 sheet of puff pastry to make 6 pastries

-Preheat oven to 375 degrees

-Thawed puff pastry sheet. Cut 1 sheet into 12 rectangles to make 6 pastries.

-Put some cream cheese and guava paste on 1 rectangle. Put some water around the edge. Topped with puff pastry rectangle  and crimped with fork. Then cut 3 slits and brushed with egg wash and topped with sugar.

-Repeat above step 6 times.

-Baked 375 for 18 min

Pastelitos de Guayaba y Queso (Guava Cheese Pastries) - A Sassy Spoon®

Ingredients

·         1 package puff pastry sheets, thawed (I used Pepperidge Farm)

·         14 oz guava paste, (I like the Conchita brand) (found guava paste at Walmart)

·         8 ounces cream cheese**, optional

·         1 large egg**, whisked

Instructions

1.       Preheat the oven to 400ºF (375 degrees). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.

2.       Slice the guava paste into 9 slices. To keep the knife from sticking, lightly coat the blade with a little oil so it glides through more easily.

3.       Slice the cream cheese into 9 slices.

4.       Place one puff pastry sheet on the prepared baking sheet.

5.       Arrange the guava and cream cheese slices evenly in a 3×3 grid (you’ll have 9 spots total).

6.       Place the second puff pastry sheet on top to cover the filling.

7.       Using a sharp knife, cut the stacked pastry sheets into 9 even squares (a 3×3 grid). Each square will be one pastelito with a top and bottom puff pastry layer.

8.       Lightly score the tops for venting, but don’t pull the squares apart.

9.       Brush the puff pastry evenly with egg wash for a golden, flaky crust.

10.   Bake for 20–25 minutes (baked 18 min), until puffed and golden brown. Serve warm and enjoy!
